In this episode Tara speaks to the endearing, hardworking, with a great sense of humor, founder, owner and operator of Cafe Social Mallorca, Eduardo Santa Cruz. Not only does Eduardo make the finest cup of coffee on the island, he creates an incredible meeting place in the farmer’s markets of Mallorca, where community members congregate and socialize. In their talk, Eduardo speaks about drinking a lot of Italian coffee growing up in Buenos Aires, his move to Mallorca, working at Hotel La Residencia in Deia, his stint in show biz with the Tony Award winning producer David Pugh, and how it all led him to the business of making excellent coffee.

In this episode Tara speaks to Andy Bell, the singer/songwriter of the award winning pop duo Erasure. Andy’s angelic voice and bold showmanship rocketed him to iconic status in the music world. In their talk, Andy shares some great anecdotes about his life as a musician, why he loves Deia, and what it was like to be out as a gay man from the very begining of his career. Andy’s warmth and easy going nature makes this talk an absolute pleasure to listen to. It was a big bonus for Tara to find out that they share a mutual love of Debbie Harry.

In this episode, Tara speaks to osteopath, poet, and free spirited dancer, a classic Deia character, Neil Pilkington. Neil is as funny as he is witty and as poignant as he is funny. In their talk, Neil talks about growing up poor in Ireland, getting kicked out of the Seminary, and how it all somehow led him to Deia. Though he claims to be a shy public speaker, Neil’s storytelling and poetry reading are highly entertaining. At the end of the episode stay tuned to hear one of Neil's latest works.

In this episode Tara speaks to Deia artist, adventurer and incredible mom, Sunna Wathen.  In their talk, Sunna describes a unique childhood that took her all over the world with parents who always chose to travel and live off the beaten path. We learn that Deia gave her a secure base, and the space to become a gifted artist. Sunna’s light shines when she talks about all of the art and creating that is ahead of her, as she taps into her remarkable life experiences to make great art.

In this episode Tara speaks to Celebrant, radio host, and founder of Mallorca Death Cafe, Glynis German. In the talk, Glynis tells us what it was like to grow up in a Jamaican and Welsh family, what brought her to Mallorca, and the serendipitous nature of how she became a celebrant. She also talks about her work with the Death Cafe, what it means to talk about death, and how this all led up to her working on a Death Doula program here on the island. As the talk unfolds, it becomes clear that Glynis is one of the treasures found on the island of Mallorca.

In this episode Tara speaks to the well loved DJ, music producer, and founder of Wake Up Dance, Llewelyn Graves. In the talk, Llewelyn shares his path to becoming the well known DJ, Nin Petit, who brought world music to the dance floor playlist. His journey took him through a world of partying that led him to the final understanding that the party really begins when the drug use ends. Easy going and charming, Llewelyn talks about his great Deia childhood, his love of skateboarding, and all things extraterrestrial. This episode does contain talk of drug use.

In this episode Tara talks to award winning, international public health expert, Laurent Huber (yes same last name, no coincidence). In their talk, Laurent talks about his parent’s adventurous spirits, what brought them to Deia, and his incredible and unique childhood growing up here in the height of the Deia art scene. As we hear his story unfold, it becomes clear that his unique upbringing prepared him for the incredible and difficult work he does, as he works to make the world healthier for all.

In this episode, Tara talks to John (Juan) Abrams, Estate Manager of S’Estaca, an iconic finca in Mallorca, that was built by the Archduke, Louis Salvador of Austria in 1878. The son of American Artists, Mary Tatum and Ross Abrams, who were a part of the early Deia art scene, John considers himself a full Mallorcan. He talks about his close relationships with the Mallorcans growing up in Deia, and how through them, he learned the valuable skills of taking care of the land, and other traditions that were passed down for generations.

In this episode Tara talks to Jaime Salas, high up in the mountains at his little casita. Jamie was born in the house he grew up in, and has spent his life living in Deia. He is a builder, a vocation passed down from his father, and he knows just about everyone and everything to know about in Deia. He talks about how Deia has changed since his childhood, and some of the changes he would like to see as Deia moves into its future.

In this episode Tara talks to Tille and Oro. Tille is the Interior Designer and Oro is the Design Director for the cutting edge firm Moredesign https://www.moredesign.es/, an office for Mediterranean design, based in Deia. Both of them are incredibly passionate about their work, which they approach with a strong commitment to community, quality and consciousness. An inspiring couple with children, they bring their passionate natures to everything they do. And yes...there are dogs involved.

In this episode Tara talks to Deianenc Damian Heine Suner. With a PhD in Genetics, Damian currently does research in Molecular Biology and Genetics on the island. Damian tells us about his parents, the Deia Artist Mark Heine, a German Jew, who found himself in New York and then Deia after WWII, and his mother Francesca Suner, a Mallorcan school teacher who grew up on the island of Cabrera during the Spanish Civil War. Damian also shares fascinating insights into his work as a scientist.

In this episode Tara speaks with Steffi Schulz who co-wrote Faces of Mallorca with Mark Julian Edwards. Mark, who wrote the book with Stephanie, took the photos, and together they created a beautiful book that is a celebration of the Mallorcan people. In this talk we get to know Steffi, as she tells us how the seed for the book was planted between her and Mark as a project concept, and how they decided to go for it. We also get some insights into the creative journey that Steffi took as the book came to life for her.

In this episode Tara talks to the fun and energetic Dani Rotstein, the executive producer of the documentary Xueta Island, a movie that tells the story of the Mallorcan Jews who were forced to convert many centuries ago, and until recently, have been a taboo topic on the island. Dani talks about his life growing up in a Jewish home in New Jersey, falling in love with Spain, moving here, finding his true love in Spain, and then finding his calling to share the rich and varied history of the Mallorcan Jews.

In this episode Tara talks to Francisca Deia, a lifelong Deianenc who helps to run S'Hortet, a family run restaurant in the Clot. Francisca tells a fascinating story about her farming family and what things were like back in the days of Deia before the big changes came after the death of Franco. Her story is one of hard work, and heroic rebellion in the midst of a time and place when things were changing fast. Francisca is fiercely intelligent, and her strength and integrity shine through in this excellent talk.

In this episode Tara talks to Lluis, the young and endearing Mayor of Deia. Lluis is a man who believes in the will of the people, and that it is the people, and not the politicians who ultimately shape a community. His openness to all ideas and differences makes him a unique leader in a time when polarization is trending globally. A born and raised Deianenc, his love for Deia and it’s citizens is truly poetic.

In this episode Tara talks to Jane Winterbottom, also known as DJ Funk Boutique. In the 1980’s, Jane played a big role in launching the Underground Acid House music scene in Manchester and Blackburn, England, lighting the fire for Acid House music and raves globally. Jane talks about what it was like to be a woman DJ at a time when it was all boys, the excitement and political undertones of the times, and her transition from sought after music mixer, to holistic health professional in Deia. Jane’s story is worthy of a Netflix series. Yes, she is currently writing the book.

Scott's interests are varied, ambitious and civic minded, bringing to mind the true Renaissance man. We also address the perennial question about Deia. Is it possible to live in paradise and work at the same time? We certainly hope so...
